Gaspeite is a relatively new discovery: 1966
in the Gaspe peninsula of Quebec, Canada.
The original deposit was less than 400 Kg.
which has long since been mined out. It was
subsequently discovered in Western Australia
and South Africa. The deposit in Australia has
also been mined out and is only available in
extremely limited quantities. The mineral is
considered an extremely rare and collectible
stone. It is usually an " apple " green with a
Mohs hardness of 4.5-6.5.
